Voice to the World
Bridging the Digital Divide
The “digital divide” refers to a gap in knowledge with regard to computer and technology literacy. While children may have access to computers and technology, the knowledge to effectively use these resources can be limited.
The James Farrior Foundation and Voice to The World are officially joining forces in order to educate underserved youth and improve their computer and technology literacy. This is being accomplished through a joint collaborative effort that provides tools, resources and education to develop fundamental computer skills, keyboarding skills, as well as proficiency in applications such as Microsoft Office, Power point, and Excel.
The initial demonstration project at Henderson Middle School validated the curriculum through the resultant metrics showing an improvement in words per minute typed (39 wpm from 13 wpm at baseline) and capability to use the aforementioned applications after a 29 week program.
The goal of this partnership is to expand the program to assist up to 200 children in 2011/2012.
The James Farrior Foundation is assisting with fundraising efforts, networking, and promotion of this educational initiative.
